The sixth Hungarian Innovation TechShow (HITS) held together with the inaugural Central European Startup Awards (CESA) ceremony marked the concluding episode of the 2014 Budapest Startup Spring. HITS – itself comprising an exhibition of new tech innovations, two simultaneous conferences, and four pitching sessions – kept the participants busy during the day, and the grand finale of CESA – aiming to celebrate the most outstanding recent tech entrepreneurial achievements in the Central and Eastern European region – was the highlight of the evening.
Hungarian Innovation TechShow
From among the 17 pre-selected startups who got a chance to exhibit at HITS and pitch on the main stage, the jury of top entrepreneurs, investors, technologists, and tech journalists selected cloud-based crowdtesting platform TestJockey as the recipient of this year’s grand prize. The audience grand prize went to call and IM security technology provider CrypTalk, and the best presentation prize was awarded to SCADA-based automated machine monitoring system Overmind.
Fintech&Sales Demo Day
A special pitching session was devoted to startups developing financial solutions and new products/services supporting corporate sales and marketing. The jury of this pitching session, made up of top managers from large corporations, picked above-mentioned CrypTalk as the top fintech contestant, and real-time emotion and opinion tracker Neticle as best in the sales&marketing category.
Hackathon-in-a-Box Demo Day
A third pitching session was held for the winners of academic idea contests organized in the previous months around Hungary. Among the 11 presenters, representing 11 different institutions of higher education, the jury of Hackathon-in-a-Box picked bathroom water management optimizer 5L as the winner.
Central European Startup Awards
The fourth pitching session lined up the ten finalists of an earlier competition held in the framework of the Budapest Startup Spring in March 2014. Here the jury’s favorite was crowdsourcing-based presentation support tool Rate My Speech. This fourth and final pitch rally ushered in the Central European Startup Awards ceremony, where the top entrepreneurs and service providers from all over CEE were recognized: UXPint was chosen as the best startup, yet again CrypTalk as the developer hero, SpeedInvest as best service provider, Roomle as best designer startup, Radu Georgescu as the investor of the year, and Jan Rezabet as the founder of the year.
The day was made complete with keynotes and panel discussions during the day, and various show elements during the CESA ceremony.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank our co-organizers, exhibitors, speakers, moderators, panel discussants, pitch presenters, and audience for their participation, and our sponsors and partners for their much-appreciated contribution! Thank you and see you all next year!
